Pakistani Community

The Pakistani Community on the west coast is mostly concentrated in Southern California (in the five County area consisting of Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties as well as San Diego County) and Northern California (in the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley and Sacramento County). There are smaller concentrations in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. The estimated number of the community in the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Consulate is around 150,000.

The Pakistani community on the West Coast mainly consists of professionals in the fields of medicine and computer software/ hardware engineering. In addition many entrepreneurs of Pakistani origin own large businesses in myriad fields such information technology, textiles, manufacturing, and real estate etc. Businesses of smaller scale owned by Pakistanis are also abound in ventures like travel agencies, motels and restaurants, convenience stores and gas stations.

The Pakistani community is well organized into a number of Associations which are both socially and politically active. The Pakistani Associations active in the area under the Consulate’s jurisdiction include Council of Pakistan American Affairs (COPAA), Pakistan Information and Cultural Organization of Arizona, Pakistan Association of San Diego, Pakistan Association of San Francisco, Pakistan Association of Utah, Pakistan Society of Southern California, Pakistan Association of Greater Seattle, Pakistani Association of Colorado, Pakistani American Chamber of Commerce,  Association of Pakistani Physicians of North American (APPNA), Pakistan American Veterans Association (PAVA), and Pakistan Arts Council of the Asia Pacific Museum, and Pakistani Student Associations at all major Universities.
