Consular Services > Machine Readable Passport (MRP) The
Government of Pakistan has introduced Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
for Pakistani Nationals at home and abroad which is as per ICAO
Standards (please visit www.dgip.gov.pk
for details). The Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles has started
issuing MRPs from February 2006, being one of the nine Pakistani
Missions abroad issuing MRPs. All persons possessing valid or expired
Pakistani passports can apply for MRP. MRP
applicants must possess computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) /
National Identity card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP) issued by National
Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Applicants below 18 years
should hold either NICOP or RG-2 Form / CRC (Child Registration
Certificate) issued by NADRA. (Visit NICOP page) If
there is discrepancy between the information provided by the applicant
and the data in NADRA's database, the applicant can rectify the data in
the NICOP before applying for MRP. In case it is not possible due to any
reason, the applicant will be required to produce documents like birth
certificate, matriculation certificate, valid passport, or valid visa to
proof or justify the change noticed in data fetched from NADRA
warehouse. In case of change of a woman's name due to marriage, the
applicant should have her NICOP/CNIC card changed to the married name
before applying for MRP showing the marital status. All
applicants are required to apply in person for MRP at the Consulate.
Processing of MRP application includes recording of biometric data
(finger print scanning), photographing, taking the applicant's personal
data and interview for which personal attendance is mandatory at the
Consulate Concerned. The
passports are being printed in Pakistan and are sent back to the
Consulates. Thereafter, the applicants can either pick the passports
from their Consulates or can have them mailed for which they have to
provide prepaid certified mailing envelopes. Requirement
