Consular Services > Machine Readable Passport (MRP) Machine Readable Passport (MRP) The Government of Pakistan has introduced Machine Readable Passport (MRP), for Pakistan Nationals within the country and abroad which is as per ICAO Standards (please visit www.dgip.gov.pk for details). The Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles has started issuing MRPs since February 2006, being one of the nine Pakistani Missions abroad issuing MRPs. All persons possessing valid or expired Pakistani passports can apply for MRP. MRP applicants must possess valid computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)* / National Identity card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP) issued by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Applicants below 18 years should hold either NICOP or RG-2 Form / CRC (Child Registration Certificate) issued by NADRA. (Visit NICOP page on the Consulate’s website) If there is a discrepancy between the information provided by the applicant and the data in NADRA's database, the applicant can rectify the data in the NICOP before applying for MRP. In case it is not possible due to any reason, the applicant will be required to produce documents like birth certificate, matriculation certificate, valid passport, or valid visa to prove or justify the change noticed in data fetched from NADRA warehouse. In case of change of a female applicant’s name due to marriage, the applicant should have her NICOP/CNIC card changed to the married name before applying for MRP showing the marital status/Marriage Certificate. All applicants are required to apply in person for MRP at the Consulate. Processing of MRP application includes recording of biometric data (finger print scanning), photographing, taking the applicant's personal data and interview for which personal attendance is mandatory at the Consulate Concerned. The passports are being printed in Pakistan and are sent back to the Consulates. Thereafter, the applicants can either pick the passports from their Consulates or can have them mailed for which they have to provide prepaid certified mailing envelope. Requirement for Ordinary MRP Passport (Ready after 15 business days - Currently, the receipt of Machine Readable Passports (MRP) from Islamabad has been delayed due to technical problems). a) For applicants: 18 years of age and above I Fee US $ 46 (non refundable)** as Money Order or Cashier's Cheque payable to Consulate General of Pakistan. Fee can also be paid at the consulate through Credit Card. II Documents: Valid original computerized National Identity card (CNIC) issued by NADRA or NICOP and its photocopies (both sides). III Old Passport and its photocopy (First four pages) either Machine Readable Passport or manual passport (valid or expired). IV Proof of residence in the US (copy of green card / visa / work authorization). V Foreign Passport along with its copies for dual nationality holders only VI NOC in case of a Government Servant from concerned department. Note: For processing, Officer dealing with MRP may ask for additional papers/documents if and when required. b) For applicants: below 18 years of age I Fee US $ 46 (non refundable)** II Documents: Original valid Computerized Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA and two photocopies or valid NICOP and its copies III Parents NADRA ID Card and its photocopy IV Foreign Passport along with its copies for dual nationality holders only
Requirement for Urgent MRP passport (Ready after 6 Business days). a) for applicants: 18 years of age and above · Fee US $ 120 (non refundable)** · Documents: same documents as required for Ordinary Machine Readable Passport b) for applicants: Below 18 years of age · Fee US $ 120 (non refundable)** · Documents: same documents as required for Ordinary Machine Readable Passport Requirement for Lost Passport: Lost Passport applications are processed after confirmation of particulars of lost passport by the passport issuing authority, whether within US or Pakistan or any other place. · Affidavit/Form-D, along with 2"x2" photograph (2) · Police Report Fee for MRP issued against lost passport: · First Time Loss(Normal): Double fee will be charged (US $ 92)(non refundable)** · First time Loss(Urgent): Double fee will be charges (US $240) (non refundable)** · Second Time Loss (Normal): Quadruple fee will be charged (US $ 185)(non refundable)** · Second Time Loss (Urgent): Quadruple fee will be charges (US $ 480) (non refundable)** · Third Time Loss: Consulate General may issue emergency passport for return to Pakistan with an intimation to Directorate General Immigration & Passport of Pakistan. Delivery of MRPs · Ordinary MRPs are ready for delivery/dispatch after 15 business days from the application acceptance date. · Urgent MRPs are ready for delivery/dispatch after 6 business days from the application acceptance date. · MRPs against lost passport shall only be issued after receipt of confirmation. (Note: The delivery/dispatch of passports may be delayed due to unforeseen) Collection of MRPs Passports can be collected in person between 4:00 to 5:00 PM from the consulate. Otherwise certified prepaid self addressed return envelope are required at the booking time for delivery through mail. Currently, the receipt of Machine Readable Passports (MRP) from Islamabad has been delayed due to technical problems. * Senior citizens (65 years and above) are not required to renew their CNIC. ** Once fee deposited will not be refunded whether desired Consular services are rendered or otherwise.
